Welcome to HIP Africa Organization
HIP Africa Organization (Hope Initiative Programs) is a humanitarian-based non-governmental organization operating in Kenya. It was founded in 2015 by Mr. Livingstone Kegode – the Director. Mr. Kegode is a 2015 Skype Master Teacher Award winner who is deeply passionate about education as a driving tool for societal change. Prior to starting HIP, he utilized his educational skills at Cherry Centre from 2012-2013 and Havillah School in 2014 as a coordinator of Digital Literacy. As an awardee of the Skype Teacher Award, he used his technological skills to digitally and remotely connect over 800 students from the two schools using teleconferencing tools such as Skype, Zoom, and Google Hangouts with their counterparts from around the globe. Despite the efforts to globally connect and provide access to teaching and learning materials to urban learners, these same digital inequities were still evident in rural areas of Kenya. These consequently affected the quality of education, access to teaching and learning resources, and poor performance among these learners from rural areas. As a result, the HIP Africa Organization was founded. HIP Africa strives to bridge the inequities in basic education that exist in rural areas of Kenya by delivering quality learning and teaching resources. The importance of involving global educators and community in partnership will impact the future economic and social prospects of future generations.

The majority of the world’s population is rural. Sub-Saharan Africa has a particularly large proportion of its population living in rural areas. Many of these people are poor, illiterate, and under-nourished. Chronic hunger erodes cognitive abilities, while lack of education reduces the capacity to produce a self-dependent workforce contributing to poverty. Girls in rural areas are particularly disadvantaged. Growth in the agricultural sector and improvements in education have a crucial role to play in creating opportunities and equipping rural people with the knowledge and skills to strengthen their livelihoods, incomes, and productivity, given their cultural, economic, and natural environments. This is as asserted by a report presented by UNESCO.
